Workspace ONE – Mobile Device Management for this mid-sized manufacturing company

The logical choice was VMware Workspace ONE

"We are proud to be known as a market leader in a specialized industry that sets high standards for quality and security," says the IT head of the long-established medium-sized company, which manufactures parts for the automotive industry. "To protect our employees' devices and thereby ensure the security of our company data, we were looking for the best solution." They chose VMware Workspace ONE.

More than 50 years ago, the company started with innovative ideas to supply a burgeoning industry. Today, they rely on other pioneers in the field of Enterprise Mobility Management. "Since VMware acquired AirWatch in 2014, they combined AirWatch technology with VMware Horizon VDI and VMware Identity Manager into an integrated digital workspace platform – the VMware Workspace ONE," says Jens Hennig, the lead architect from comdivision for this project. "I immediately saw the potential of this extension of the VMware portfolio for our end-user business at comdivision," adds Hennig, who wrote his VCDX Design Defense on end-user-related topics in 2014.

the challenge

"We wanted to give our 350 employees worldwide access to corporate resources," explains the IT head. "However, as we have a lean and efficient IT department, the new system needed to be easy to handle and integrate. The learning curve for end-users should be minimal. My goal was a solution that allows remote device management and proactively ensures policy compliance. On security-related issues, we need to be at the forefront to not jeopardize our market credibility."

the solution

"I suggested deploying Workspace ONE," Hennig says. "Since it's compatible with our existing infrastructure, the onboarding time for Workspace ONE would be shorter than, for example, Microsoft's Endpoint Manager. With a manageable IT department, we would benefit from the rule-based automation integrated into Workspace ONE," Hennig explains. "Because employees need to configure very little themselves and performance issues are avoided through proactive management, support requests also remain minimal.”

the result

Workspace ONE proved to be the perfect choice. "We set a time limit for an app's response. If this is exceeded, the relevant app, like Office 365 apps, automatically restarts," explains the customer's IT head. "The fact that the system supports any operating system, whether Android or iOS, Windows or Mac, we almost took for granted," jokes Hennig.
